In a statement, GNR and PSP said the campaign, part of the National Control Plan for 2020, will take place until 14 December and aims to alert drivers to the negative and even fatal consequences of using their mobile phones while driving.
During the campaign, ANSR's awareness raising actions and inspection operations will be carried out by the GNR and PSP, with a special focus on roads and access roads with high traffic flow.
Awareness-raising activities will take place simultaneously with inspection operations on 10 December on Highway 5 (Lisbon-Cascais), at the exit to São Domingos de Rana, at Faro airport and at Rotunda EN125/EN396, Loulé, Faro district.
On 11 December, the actions will take place at the Rotunda da Força Aérea, in Beja, and at Rossio de São Brás, Évora.
On 14 December, the actions will take place in Circular Externa, in Montijo, district of Setúbal.
According to the authorities, the use of a mobile phone while driving increases the risk of a car accident four times.
