According to the commander of the Volunteer Firefighters of Póvoa de Santa Iria, António Carvalho, the alert was given 18:41 on Sunday, reporting the fall of a child, a 6-year-old boy, from a balcony of a 7th floor.

At the time of the rescue, the child "was in cardiopulmonary arrest", life saving efforts were carried out for "more than an hour", but it was not possible to reverse the situation and the death was declared at the scene, António Carvalho said, in statements to Lusa agency.

Without information on the circumstances that led to the fall of the child who "was with his mother at home", the commander of the Póvoa de Santa Iria Volunteer Firefighters said that the investigation "is in charge of the Public Security Police (PSP)".
