The National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) has given the green light for Lisbon to install 216 video surveillance cameras in 16 areas of the municipality. It did however state that the system “has to ensure that it is not possible to edit or eliminate masks by users of the system or to use sound recording capacity”, so as not to compromise the privacy of citizens, particularly in their homes or at the entrance to buildings.
