Of these 10,500 homes, around 4,700 have already been delivered to families, which corresponds to approximately 19% of the total number of homes that the city councils applied for, according to the AML.
By January of this year, the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon metropolitan area had submitted applications for the construction or rehabilitation of 25,000 homes for financing from the PRR. The Government had stipulated the approval of 26,000 homes for the entire country.
“This high volume of applications is illustrative of the housing shortages felt in the region”, which already amounted to 50,000 households in 2022, according to the “Diagnosis of Unworthy Housing Conditions in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area” presented in November of that year.
Meanwhile, the AML is carrying out an estimate of costs and income from the management of public housing stock under the management of the 18 city councils. With this data, municipalities can then “support the need to reinforce the State’s contribution to housing promotion and the rehabilitation of this housing stock”, explains AML.
The municipalities of Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisbon, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira are part of this entity.
