Algarve tourism officials have “moderate expectations” for Easter, which this year is set to fall on April 4. Speaking to Dinheiro Vivo, João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA) said "there are several indicators that are positive" for 2021 though there are many variables on the table that could change the panorama. Among the positive signs he noted a study by online travel platform Skyscanner, which shows Faro airport comes in second place for the largest number of searches for flight reservations for Easter and summer. Reports by Lufthansa and Transavia also indicate that the Algarve, alongside Greece, was one of the best performing destinations for summer searches.
Well, if this isn't insanity or terminal stupidity, I can only conclude that it's desperation. Mass tourism, one of the main causes of the pandemic (yes, the virus cause the disease, but it is our behaviour, private and social, that is the cause of the pandemic) is dead and gone for the foreseeable future. As for the countries that relied primarely on it, I fear a very bleak future.
