The DGS epidemiological bulletin also reveals that 3,584 patients are hospitalised, 235 less than on Thursday, of which 669 are in intensive care, 19 less.
In the last three days, 1,248 patients were discharged from hospital, of which 115 were from intensive care units.
Since January 1, the day on which 66 people died, that Portugal did not register a number of deaths similar to today.
As for hospitalisations, today's value is close to those recorded on January 9 when the data pointed to 3,555 people hospitalized with covid-19.
The data released today also indicate that 4,404 people were reported as recovered, bringing the total number of recovered to 691,866 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020.
For 19 consecutive days, the number of recovered patients exceeds that of new infections.
Active cases in Portugal continue to decline. Today Portugal has 87,082 active cases, minus 2,531.
Since March 2020, Portugal has registered 15,821 deaths associated with covid-19 and 794,769 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Health authorities have 100,282 contacts under surveillance, less 7,271 compared to the previous day, with a downward trend since January 30.
According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 618,636 people vaccinated: 388,661 with the first dose and 229,975 with the second dose.
Of the 67 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 38 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 10 in the North region, another 13 in the Centre region, four in Alentejo and two in the Algarve region.
In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, a further 975 new infections were reported, with 299,988 cases and 6,559 deaths so far.
According to the bulletin, the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region has 50.2 percent of the total cases recorded in the last 24 hours and 56.7% of the total deaths.
Today, the North region has 403 new SARS-CoV-2 infections and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already registered 323,885 cases of infection and 5,122 deaths.
In the Centre region, 287 more cases were registered, with 113,635 infections and 2,816 deaths.
In the Alentejo, 49 more cases were reported, totalling 28,068 infections and 915 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.
The Algarve region has today reported 75 new cases, totalling 19,704 infections and 322 deaths.
Madeira registered 140 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 5,782 infections and 59 deaths due to covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of the Azores recorded 11 new cases in the last 24 hours and a total of 3,707 cases of infection and 28 deaths were reported.
Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.
Of the total fatalities, 8,263 were men and 7,558 women.
The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
Of the total of 15,821 deaths, 10,516 were people over 80 years old, 3,314 were aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,380 were between 60 and 69 years old.

So let me get this straight; 100% of deaths occured within the elderly. So pray tell why the young and fit cannot go out and work, live, etc. What a god damn joke. These "leaders" are pathetic and are to blame for the negative socio-economic consequences from these tyrannical lockdown measures.
