Loures (Santa Iria de Azóia and Frielas), Penafiel (Milhundos), Fafe, Leiria (Sepal Valley), Matosinhos (São Gens), Palmela, Lisbon (Santa Clara and Quinta do Lambert, Lumiar) and Porto (Amial) are the locations where Mercadona will open new supermarkets in 2025, reaching the end of this year with a network of 70 spaces spread across 12 districts of the country.

The plan confirms the information provided by ECO that the Spanish retailer will arrive in the city of Lisbon in the coming months and will soon open two stores. One of the projects, already under construction on a 5,000 square meter plot of land on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in the parish of Santa Clara (Alta de Lisboa), includes an office area to house the team of around 100 people in the capital in roles such as human resources, logistics and construction.

To meet the expansion plan for 2025, the company is already recruiting for several roles and currently has vacancies open mainly for supermarket operators, maintenance assistants and warehouse operators. In January, the company applied 8.5% adjustments to all workers, setting the starting salary at €14,963.90 gross per year (23% above the national minimum wage).
