\ Captain José Zeferino Henriques explained that “the lifeguards took the man out of the sea […] and performed the resuscitation maneuvers”, but “at 4:36 pm, after the arrival of the VMER vehicle [Medical Vehicle of Emergency and Resuscitation] of the INEM [National Institute of Medical Emergency] was declared dead, therefore, it is likely that he died by drowning”.

He is “a 59-year-old man whose body was sent to the morgue of the Leiria hospital”, specified José Zeferino Henriques.

According to the District Command for Relief Operations (CDOS) of Leiria, the alert was given at 4:03 pm and nine workers were at the site supported by five vehicles.
