According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) 688 people with Covid-19 are hospitalised today, 28 fewer than on Tuesday, 144 of which in intensive care, 4 less.

The area of ​​Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 966 new cases, and the North region, with 1,124, have 68.2% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (7), in the North region (5), in the Centre region (1) and in the Algarve (3).

Regarding the ages of the victims, eight were over 80 years old, four between 70 and 79, one between 60 and 69 and three between 50 and 59 years.

Regarding the age characterisation of new confirmed cases of infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years (men and women) that there were more cases, with 817 more infected in the last 24 hours.

The following are the age groups between 10 and 19 years old (646 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years old (379 new cases).

Data released by the DGS also show that there are over 810 active cases, totalling 44,990, and that 2,236 people were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 963,205 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,674 people have died in Portugal and 1,025,869 cases of infection have been registered.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 966 new infections, counts so far 399,132 cases and 7,561 deaths.

In the Northern region, 1,124 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 395,011 cases of infection and 5,494 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 478 more cases, accumulating 136,612 infections and 3,076 deaths.

In the Alentejo, a further 154 cases were reported, totalling 36,541 infections and 1004 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 272 new cases, accumulating 38,542 infections and 427 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 51 new cases, totalling 11,574 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 17 new cases, accounting for 8,457 cases and 40 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,281 were men and 8,393 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,544 were over 80 years old, 3,788 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,603 were between 60 and 69 years old.
