“On Tuesday, the showers will decrease in intensity, but on Wednesday the weather will worsen again with heavy showers, rough seas and snow. The trend is for it to continue raining during the week,” she said.
The districts of Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Portalegre will be under a yellow warning between 9 am and 9 pm today.
Speaking to Lusa, the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said that the situation will gradually worsen throughout the morning.
“But it will be from mid-morning today that the situation will be more intense with sometimes heavy rain showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasionally hail may occur. Therefore, notices have already been issued,” she said.
According to Paula Leitão, a yellow warning was also issued for Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon and Beja due to strong winds with gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour, especially on the coast, between 12 pm today and midnight on Tuesday.
The districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, Vila Real and Braga are also under yellow warning due to snowfall above 1,000/1,200 meters until 12 pm on Tuesday.
The Institute has issued a yellow warning for Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon, Leiria and Beja until 9 am on Tuesday due to strong sea agitation.
The IPMA also placed the north coast of Madeira Island and the island of Porto Santo under an orange warning until 9:00 am today, then changing to yellow until 6:00 pm today due to rough seas.
