Every year more than 1,500 children and young people disappear in Portugal. The number is high, but the vast majority are quickly found by the authorities. In the rest of Europe, a child is reported missing every two minutes.

The numbers of human trafficking in Pt are high and have suffered steep increases in the past years. On another note, no Pt parents with missing children get the the resources the MCcann couple got( so whenever I see them and think of all other parents I FUME).

I worked in Queensland Police. Missing children, most of whom were absconders from home, soaked up immense resources. This detracted from the hunt for those that were genuinely missing. Many of the absconders were serial offenders who cared little about the trauma and trouble they caused their parents and authorities. This appears also to be the case in Portugal.
