“It is with great satisfaction that we have seen an expected occupancy rate of 87% for this Easter, which demonstrates not only the continued attractiveness of Madeira as a destination, but also the strengthening of visitors' confidence in the regional offer”, says the archipelago's regional secretary for tourism, Eduardo Jesus to Lusa.

The rate released by the Regional Secretariat for Economy, Tourism and Culture refers to the expected occupancy between 17 and 20 April and was obtained through a survey carried out by the Tourism Department among tourist establishments in Madeira and Porto Santo.

The survey was carried out “at the beginning of this week and is two percentage points higher than the rate recorded in the same period in 2024 (a week and a half before the festive period)”, the information also reads.

In the information sent to Lusa, the Madeiran government official highlights the positive indicators recorded in Funchal and the significant increase in demand for five-star units.

Based on the survey carried out among the hotel industry, it is possible to determine that there was “an increase in reservations in all types of establishments, with emphasis on the growth of five-star units (11 percentage points compared to Easter 2024)”.

Also, in the assessment by zones, “the municipality of Funchal stands out with an increase of six percentage points”, highlights the Madeiran executive.

“These are very encouraging figures, which reinforce the dynamics of the regional tourism sector and make us believe that Easter will be very strong in terms of activity and economic impact”, he stresses.

In the opinion of the Madeiran government official, “the Autonomous Region of Madeira continues to assert itself as a tourist destination for all, with a solid and growing demand throughout the year, as a result of the quality of the offer and the tourism promotion strategy consolidated over the last few years”.

Tourism is considered Madeira's main economic sector.

According to statistical data from 2024, Madeiran tourism broke records, accounting for 2.2 million guests who generated 11.7 million overnight stays.

In February of this year, according to the preliminary results released, Madeira registered the arrival of 152.1 thousand guests, who generated 826.1 thousand overnight stays, translating into positive year-on-year variations of 2.6% and 5.0%.
