According to ECO, Cristiano Ronaldo has added another venture to his ever-growing investment portfolio, this time stepping into the entertainment industry.
The Portuguese football icon has partnered with British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, known for directing hits like Kick-Ass and Kingsman, to launch a new film studio called UR•MARV, which promises to blend cutting-edge technology with classic cinematic storytelling.
According to an official statement, the duo has already financed and produced two action films under the new partnership and are preparing to start work on a third installment in the same series. Their first release is expected soon, marking Ronaldo’s official debut in film production.
The studio aims to focus on innovative technologies in film while honoring traditional storytelling methods. Vaughn described Ronaldo as “a real-life superhero,” and Ronaldo referred to the venture as “an exciting chapter” as he explores new business opportunities beyond football.
At 40, the captain of Portugal’s national team continues to diversify his business empire, which spans hospitality, beauty, health, and consumer goods. In 2023, Forbes named Ronaldo the highest-paid athlete in the world, estimating his annual income at over €240 million.
In 2023, he invested in Vista Alegre, a renowned Portuguese porcelain brand, creating a joint company with the group. He holds a stake in Medialivre, the rebranded media company formerly known as Cofina Média, which owns titles such as Correio da Manhã, Record, Jornal de Negócios, and Sábado.
Ronaldo became a brand ambassador and investor in WHOOP, an American fitness and performance tech company that has raised over $400 million in venture capital. In the healthcare space, he joined the Insparya Group in 2021, a company focused on hair transplants with operations in Portugal, Spain, and Italy. His foray into hospitality began in 2016 with a €75 million joint venture with the Pestana Group, resulting in the Pestana CR7 Lifestyle Hotels brand, with locations in Funchal, Lisbon, Madrid, and New York.
Currently playing for Saudi club Al Nassr under a contract reportedly worth over €200 million annually, Ronaldo remains one of the most followed individuals in the world, boasting more than 850 million followers across social media.
