Portugal recorded 54,693 new infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the last 24 hours and 56 more deaths associated with Covid-19, accounting for a total of 2,745,383 infections and 20,024 deaths since the first cases were confirmed.
The first death of a person infected with SARS-CoV-2 was recorded on March 16, 2020.
About a year ago (January 23), Portugal exceeded 10,000 deaths associated with Covid-19, at a time when the country was experiencing its highest peak until then, having registered more than 300 deaths in 24 hours.
In the last month, the average of new daily cases was significantly higher than that recorded at that time, with a maximum of 65,706 registered on Thursday (a year ago, the maximum had been set at 16,432 cases), but with around 90% of the population fully vaccinated, the number of deaths is much lower.
