According to the daily epidemiological bulletin of the DGS, 1,127 people are hospitalised today, 47 less than on Wednesday, while in the intensive care units there are now 70 patients, two less than the previous day, although not all hospitalisations are due to Covid-19.
The number of active cases increased today to 482,801, 4,457 more than on Wednesday, and in the last 24 hours 8,319 people were reported to have recovered, for a total of 2,876,177 recovered since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of the 18 deaths in the last 24 hours, five took place in the Centre region, five in the North region, three in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, two in the Alentejo, two in the Algarve and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
By age groups, 14 elderly people aged over 80 and four people aged between 70 and 79 died.
Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 5,252 infections, followed by the Centre (2,498), the North (2,066), the Alentejo (1,041), the Algarve (832), Madeira (762) and Azores (343).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 1,201,017 cases and 8,799 deaths.
In the North region, there were 1,248,679 infections and 6,506 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 516,074 infections and 3,799 deaths.
The Algarve totals 141,843 contagions and 700 deaths and the Alentejo adds up to 125,505 cases and 1,189 deaths with Covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has, since the beginning of the pandemic, 84,855 infections and 195 deaths and the Azores archipelago 62,290 cases and 97 deaths.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.
Since March 2020, 21,285 people in Portugal have died who were infected with SARS-CoV-2, of which 11,194 were men and 10,091 were women.
