The notice covers the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon and will be in force between 12:00 on Friday and 06:00 on Saturday, then turning to yellow between 06:00 and 11:00 on Saturday.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has also placed the districts of Setúbal, Beja and Faro under a yellow weather due to rough seas, with west-northwest waves of 4 to 5 metres expected.

The maritime agitation has also led the IPMA to place the North Coast of Madeira and Porto Santo under a yellow warning between 12:00 on Friday and 09:00 on Saturday, with northwest waves of 4 to 5 metres expected.

The orange warning is the second most serious and represents a moderate to high risk weather situation.
