In the second race of the world championship, Miguel Oliveira added his fourth victory in MotoGP, leaving the French Fábio Quartararo (Yamaha), current world champion, in second position, 2.205 seconds, and Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati) in third, with 3.158.
“Emotionally, it was a roller coaster. The start was perfect, but in the rain it's always difficult to know what the limits are. I followed Jack [Miller] for the first few laps, but when I realised I was faster, I took the lead. From there, I tried to focus on pushing as hard as I could for the next five laps. Then I tried to manage the advantage”, explained the rider from Almada.
Miguel Oliveira, who started from seventh place on the starting grid, also revealed that “the last two months have not been easy”, so “coming back with this incredible victory is very emotional”.
“I had promised my daughter to return from Indonesia with a trophy and here it is”, said the Portuguese rider, who also dedicated the triumph to one of the employees of the hotel where he is staying in Indonesia.
“He supported me throughout the weekend and I had promised him that if I got to the podium, I would dedicate it to him”, said Miguel Oliveira.
With this result, the Portuguese rider climbs to fourth place in the World Championship, despite not having scored points in the first race of the season, two weeks ago, in Qatar.
Miguel Oliveira now has 25 points, five less than leader Enea Bastianini (Ducati).
