According to information from the ECDC, the incidence of new cases of Covid-19 in 14 days in Europe remains at high levels in people over 65, although it has fallen for the fourth week.
The drop, according to the ECDC, stood at 18% and the incidence, with data recorded until April 24, stood at 1,014 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with Poland below 40, Sweden and Romania between 40 and 100. , Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Netherlands and Norway between 100 and 300 and another 22 countries above 300 new cases.
Over 65’s
For those over 65, the average incidence in the EU/EEA is 973 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down 8%, although it represents 75% of the maximum reached during the pandemic on the continent, so the ECDC considers it important to continue to monitor the situation.
The hospitalization rate, with data from 17 of the 30 countries in the region, dropped from 9.3 per 100,000 inhabitants to 8.8 in the last week.
Admission to intensive care, with data from 12 countries, was 0.7 per 100,000 inhabitants, one tenth less.
Testing rate
The ECDC noted that the weekly Covid-19 testing rate dropped 17% in the last week to 2,384 per 100,000 population, while the average test positivity was 15.5%, nearly four percentage points lower.
The 14-day mortality rate, down for the second week in a row, was 19.2 per 1 million, down 19%.
One hundred percent of the registered cases correspond to the Ómicron variant and, of these, 95.5% correspond to the BA2 subvariant.
