Inaugurated on 11 May, the new shopping area, which is right next to what was the first hypermarket in the country, represented an investment of €40 million and features a rooftop restaurant area overlooking the sea, in addition to the supermarket.
Covering an area of about seven thousand square meters (m2), the new Auchan store also has a garden at one of the entrances and a shopping gallery with several restaurants.
"The opening of this new Auchan store in Cascais is another step on the path we started several years ago and which now results in a unique space. More than a physical change, this new store is a sign of the transformation we have been making and is today a space that reflects our mission for Good and Local”, said Pedro Cid, general director of Auchan Retail Portugal.
At the opening ceremony, the manager highlighted the fact that the new Auchan store in Cascais "responds to consumer trends and the appreciation of the customer's time and needs".
Unfortunately the extremely high (and very similar, if not identical) prices in the main supermarket chains including Auchan allow this sort of huge investment in my opinion. Imagine if supermarkets chains here would engage in price wars instead of price fixing (not that any of the supermarket chains here would ever do such a thing!) like in the Uk and Spain how much more people on pittances of salaries here would enjoy a better way of life,,,,
