António Costa said after being received by the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, at Downing Street in London, in a meeting that lasted about 45 minutes and also attended by the Portuguese Foreign Minister, João Gomes Cravinho.
"This agreement will be key to relaunching the oldest alliance that exists in the world after Brexit. It is one of the first that member states have signed and is perhaps the one that covers more topics, from the areas of defence, research, through investment, trade, to technologies, digital transition and renewable energy," the Portuguese leader told journalists.
"These are challenges we are facing and we have to respond to them together. The fact that we have such a strong scientific community here in the UK helps a lot to build bridges between our scientific and university institutions," he said.
António Costa also stressed that the UK "has been investing more and more in Portugal, with British companies benefiting from the advantages of Brexit in the UK and the advantages of remaining in the European Union by investing in Portugal".
"They have been investing mainly in the area of technologies," he added.
With these two cooking and stirring we've got to ask: How much ? How many ?

All well and good, but for us immigrants, does it mean we can now get our post from the UK within four weeks, order goods from UK websites without filling in forms and paying extra tax and get Scotch Eggs from the Overseas Supermarket again? (Please be clear the last comment is there to amuse, lest any humourless person get uppity).

Bilateral agreements > The EU.
Enough said, really.

Well, I wonder if this means they will sort out the disaster that has been created with postal delivery to and from the UK since Brexit? I am an ex-pat who no longer enjoys receiving mail from the UK or sending there. It now takes ages at the CTT counter to send a package and takes a really long time for deliveries here to arrive even after you have paid the Customs Clearance. Ordering from the UK is not something that is easy any more as well.

Considering the British actions in renaging on an internatioanl treaty - The Northern Ireland Protocol - I would not trust them to keep thier word. They are solely interested in themselves so watch out!

This article is pretty thin on detail, but I imagine that is because the agreement is largely platitudes and thin on detail itself. Because it is simply not possible to agree anything meaningful bilaterally, as trading and other such relationships are negotiated for the entire EU, at EU level. This is more about Johnson making it look like he is doing something. Besides, if there was anything important in it, Johnson would complain it was an awful agreement in 2 years time, blame Portugal, and then unilaterally rewrite it.

Well wasn't the great pretender Boris said that the expats will not be paying any type of customs ? Well another lie. I did live in UK from 1999 until 2018 and after that my husband that is British and me don't enjoy anymore buy anything from the UK every time it is a big bill to release from the customs .

I will not trust Boris with anything ? Investments well must be the money that the did take from the UK taxpayers or it is from is Russian friends last thing Portugal needs . Costa needs to be careful with Boris the great pretender . Was better that Boris when dealing with the EU made financial agreement for the expats instead living them in the drain .
