Organised by the Creative Activities Laboratory (LAC), the artistic residencies and exhibitions are curated by Pedro Correia and the debates, conferences and a film cycle take place under the curatorship of Patrícia Leal, LAC announced in a statement.
ROOTS 2024 began with an exhibition at Praça do Infante and an artistic residency at the LAC facilities, with the participation of artists Blackson Afonso, Eugénia Mussa, José Miguel Gervásio and Márcio Carvalho.
It “aims to explore the multiple layers of cultural and ancestral memory, encouraging artistic creation that reflects on collective and personal legacies”, says the organisation's note.
The organisers highlight the conference “Deconstrução de Narrativas e Mitos”, followed by the screening of the film “Adventures in Mozambique and the Portuguese Tendency to Forget”, on Sunday, at 4pm, at Armazém Regimental.
On the 23rd, at 6pm, the “ROOTS” exhibition will open, with mediated visits, on the LAC premises, which can be seen until the end of December.
On November 27th, the documentary “Maison Tropicale”, by Manthia Diawara, marks the beginning of the Cinema Cycle, at the Júlio Dantas Library, at 9 pm, which continues the following day with the screening of the fiction film “Sankofa”, by Haile Gerima, at the Lagos Cultural Center, at the same time.
In the months of April and May 2025, the exhibition will be presented in the cities of Caldas da Rainha, in the district of Leiria, and in Guimarães, district of Braga, in partnership with the Center for Arts and the Center for Art Affairs and Architecture.
