According to Check Point Research's Threat Intelligence Report, the global average number of attacks against organisations in the tourism and leisure sector has increased by 60% compared to the first half of June 2021.

According to a report by Diário de Notícias, despite airport delays and rising costs, international travel is expected to grow by 11% above pre-pandemic levels.

“For many of us, this may be the first time we have travelled abroad since the pandemic, and as such, there may be certain elements of our travel routines that we may have forgotten, including our cybersecurity hygiene habits, which is music to the ears of opportunistic hackers looking to take advantage of relaxed attitudes and unprotected devices", says Rui Duro, Country Manager at Check Point Software Technologies in Portugal.

According to the Threat Intelligence Report by Check Point Research, the global average number of weekly attacks against travel and leisure-related organisations increased by 60% in June 2022 compared to the first half of June 2021.

Businesses are most vulnerable in the summer and during long weekends and holidays throughout the year. Sometimes computer attacks can go unnoticed. An example of this was the ransomware attack on the Kaseya network on July 4, 2021 by the Russian-speaking criminal group REvil which affected over 1,000 organizations worldwide.

Check Point highlighted some computer security tips for the summer: be careful with public Wi-Fi networks, do not share your credentials, disable automatic connection to Wi-Fi networks/ Bluetooth, use multi-factor authentication, install security patches and watch out for ATMs.
