The Algarve hotel industry recorded an overall average/room
occupancy rate of 75.5%, which, according to the Algarve Hotels and Tourist
Enterprises Association (AHETA), was 3.3 percentage points or 4.1% below the
registered value in June 2019, but which represents an increase of 80% compared
to the same month last year.
“The recovery continues”, highlights the association in a
press release, in which provisional data regarding the activity of tourist
accommodation units in the Algarve were released.
By markets, the Irish and British markets are highlighted,
which showed increases of 3.3 and 0.4 percentage points, respectively, and
which were, according to the association, the markets “that showed the biggest
increases compared to June 2019”.
The biggest drops were registered between the German and
Portuguese markets, which fell, in June, by 2.8 and 1.8 percentage points
compared to June last year.
Reliance on tourism leads to disaster. Portugal needs to invest on better industries and services.
