According to Lusa, the body was found after the Volunteer
Firefighters of Ribeira Grande received an alert, at around 12:30 pm, stating that
a person was missing at sea, near Praia dos Moinhos, in the municipality of
Ribeira Grande.
“Elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police, of
the “SeaWatch” Project, as well as an ambulance and an Immediate Life Support
vehicle (SIV) of the Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service of the Azores
were immediately activated, explained the Portuguese Navy in a statement.
According to the Navy, the death was declared on the scene,
and the victim was then transported to a hospital unit by the Ribeira Grande
Volunteer Firefighters.
