The Executive's estimates point to the need for between
45,000 and 50,000 workers in the tourism sector and, in this sense, a new
decree was created, which has already been promulgated by the President of the
Republic, which changes the legal regime of entry, stay, exit and removal of
foreigners in the national territory, in parallel with the current salary
conditions in tourism.
In a statement, the CTP states that it “hopes” that this
decree “will make it possible to attract more labour to tourism”. However, the
organisation “has some reservations about the capacity that public authorities
will have, under this legislation, to act in a non-bureaucratic and speedy way
with a view to encouraging more foreigners to strengthen the labour market”.
“For CTP, it is important that this process becomes effective,
as it may attract manpower to tourism, at a time when there is a shortage of
people to work in the sector”.
