The Portuguese head of state says that there is sufficient preparation in all entities to resolve what “can await us in the coming weeks”, in terms of forest fires. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also notes that there is knowledge of the challenge facing the country.
According to the President of the Republic, “there is a unity in terms of political power” that involves the political actors present in the Government and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa himself, however, during the operational briefing at the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), in Lisbon, adds that the mayors of municipalities and parishes are included, who Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa characterises as “unsurpassed on the ground in this period.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also left some words of support and thanks to the operatives who work in the field and paid tribute to deputy chief Carlos Antunes, who died fighting a fire in Caldas da Rainha.
For the head of state, “the operatives have been extraordinary”.
In the analysis of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, “there are new realities in these fires”, both in Portugal and in other countries.
