The “Beat the Butt” project will represent Portugal in the European final of ClimateLaunchpad, a competition where environmentally friendly businesses are rewarded.
The founder of the project, Carla Portela, told Lusa News Agency that the product is a cigarette case, made of recycled plastic, which incentives consumers not to drop cigarette butts in rubbish bins or on the ground, but in the right place.
The box will have a capacity for 20 cigarette butts and once it is full, they must be placed in collectors, which are intended to be distributed among the various tobacco sales outlets. The objective of the project is to start marketing the product by the end of 2022.
