The GNR Operation 'Senior Census 2022', which took place in
October, aims to ensure patrolling and awareness-raising actions for the older
population who live alone and/or isolated, alerting them to the need to adopt
safe behaviours, reducing the risk of becoming a victim of crimes, especially
violence, fraud, and theft.
The districts of Vila Real (5,353), Guarda (5,243), Viseu
(3,586), Faro (3,527), Bragança (3,411), Beja (3,346), Portalegre (2,985) and
Évora (2,924) were the districts where there were most elderly residents.
In total, 44,511 elderly people were identified who live
alone and/or are isolated, or in situations of vulnerability.
