Lisbon won the award for “Best Cruise Terminal in Europe”,
in a category in which the terminals of Civitavecchia, Amsterdam, Limassol,
Málaga, Barcelona, Kiel, Monaco, Oslo, Rostock-Warnemunde, Portsmouth,
Valletta and Zadar were also nominated, according to the Administration of the
Port of Lisbon (APL).
The APL stressed that this award is a “reason of pride” and
“proof of the growing importance of the port and the terminal for tourism and
for the city”.
“This distinction highlights the exceptional conditions that
Lisbon has to welcome ships and cruise passengers with increasing demands, thus
providing an excellent service to those who visit the Portuguese capital”,
highlighted António Caracol, administrator of the Port of Lisbon.
António Caracol also underlined that the prize awarded to
the Lisbon Cruise Terminal, which opened in November 2017 and whose global cost
amounted to around €28 million, is important at a time when APL is developing a
set of actions in a “strategy of appreciation and qualification of the cruise
industry in the city”, as well as in terms of sustainability.
“We strongly believe that Lisbon – as a port and cruise
destination – guarantees a sustainable response to present and future
challenges,” he added.
Designed by the architect Carrilho da Graça, the Lisbon
Cruise Terminal has an area of 13,800 m2 and a 1,490-metre long pier capable
of receiving ships of various types and sizes.
The World Cruise Awards, launched in 2021, aim to recognize
excellence in the global cruise sector and is a sister event of the World Travel Awards, which distinguishes the best examples of good practices in the
Tourism sector.
Strange to me...in Scandinavia is also very good terminals

I imagine that to be very possible (Good Scandinavian terminals), but as you also must know, E.N., awards can be bought, namely to polish one´s Tourism reputation and “protect” its interests. And then there´s the timing at which they´re applied. Look at the examples of Nobel Peace prizes that ended up not deserving them. This shouldn´t even be news to anyone around here. (This=not the article itself, but the concept described.)

Agreed - it´s all bull. Tourism developments have won them around where I live (west end of the Algrve). They are nothing exceptional.

Just look at the example of FIFA picking Qatar for The World Cup with all their human rights violations, perfect example, so much that Real Sports with Bryant Gumbal did a "sickening" video investigation into the labor camps; horrifying but must see to believe how this could be with a packed stadium! As well the gov. keeps their passports, can't leave. Find Real Sports on HBO (US< maybe Europe too) and on other platforms you can locate online; truly shocking! Money talks.

Guida and Steve, you are soooo right!!!! Portugal is just an insignificant corrupt country which markets itself as "paradise", as "the best" but keeps the reality far, far away from the press. The reality is that Portugal is a primitive and backwards country in Europe which lives off EU funding - which in turn, goes to private pockets.
