SPV is the institution that organises and manages the collection
of recycling waste, implementing the Integrated System for the Management of
Packaging Waste (SIGRE).
According to data from SPV, one of the managing entities of
SIGRE, the collection of recycling grew in all materials, with emphasis on the
growth of 8% in glass (a total of 218,857 tons) and 18% in aluminium (1,917
tons).
“Portugal is thus getting closer and closer to achieving the
new national targets for the recycling of packaging placed on the market, as
the global recovery rate reached almost 60% (59.6%). The current target is 55%
and in 2025, the country will have to reach 65% and in 2030, 70%”, says the SPV
in the statement.
SPV concluded with thanks to the people of Portugal "for
having placed more than 460,000 tons of packaging in the green, yellow and blue
eco-points in the last year".
Along with SPV, I have to thank these people, too. Why? Only 30% of main Lisbon has targeted garbage collection (“~30%” was last info I read). I live in such an area, and still, with people having 3 different containers for 3 different types of garbage at their front door vicinity, with papers on wall explaining what goes into which and why, - and people still will throw garbage incorrectly, go figure that out. So the effort made by people that have to make extra effort to deliver proper garbage disposal themselves is worth gold next to the lazy bums living in these areas…I mean, even the monkey in that old tv ad knows which garbage goes in which container, so what the h**l is wrong with these people…?

Guida, there is no civil education in Portugal. People drive drunk and consider themselves as "heroes" when they don't get caught; breaking rules is acceptable - often even encouraged. Just look at how impractical so many of those garbage bins are ; not to mention filthy with rubbish left all over the place. It all comes down to serious attitudes to recycling and waste disposal. And respect for their own neighbourhoods. Civic consideration and pride. Non-existent in Portugal which is due to a lack of education.
