In a statement, the Navy explains that an alert came from the cruise ship, 'Mein Schiff 3', which belongs to the TUI Cruises company. The vessel was traveling about 37 kilometres off the coast of Cascais yesterday, 15 February.
"After contact with the Guidance Center for Urgent Patients at Sea (CODU-MAR), which considered that the medical rescue of the 78-year-old man of German nationality was necessary, a vessel from the Cascais Lifeguard Station was activated, in which members of the National Institute of Medical Emergency embarked to accompany the victim", says the Navy.
Arriving on land, the man was taken to a hospital.
The rescue was coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), in conjunction with the Captain of the Port of Cascais and CODU-MAR.
