According to the organisation, there is an ongoing scheme being shared on social networks and via SMS that promises to obtain legal authorisation to drive in exchange for a sum of money.
"The IMT does not communicate the payment of any of its services through these means, so you should not proceed, at any time, with the requested payment", warns the Institute of Mobility and Transport.
"Whenever these situations are detected, they are communicated to the investigation authorities to determine criminal responsibility. When you detect or come across suspicious messages that indicate a fraudulent scheme to obtain a driving license, you must notify the criminal investigation authorities. The payment of any amounts to obtain a false driving license, as well as the issuing of these licenses, are crimes punishable by law. It is everyone's safety that is at stake", adds the organisation.
How can someone file an complaint to the authorities about fake driving license. I have also come across this on social media but I don't know where to file my complaint??.

Possibly this type of thing would have no appeal if getting a license wasn’t so difficult & costly to get! Expats with license from their home country, I urge you to exchange it to PT without delay. A friend’s license had expired and it cost her firstly, arrest by GNR, then 500 Eur penalty, then close to 1000 Eur for driving school lessons (she had been driving in her home country for at least 20 years). Each time she failed the technical exam (in PT language) it cost her another 150 Eur.

I have been faced with a situation in IMT where I'm entitled to a Portuguese driving licence in terms of the international agreement. But some regional level bureaucrat in IMT has decided that I'm not!
This kind of parochial incompetence invites people to find ways to circumvent official channels. It also provides fuel to the fire in cementing Portugal just above Botswana and Cabo Verde in the worldwide corruption perception index!

This would not be a factor if the incompetence of IMT were not involved. They make it so difficult to exchange your Licence that I am not surprised that people consider this route. It is a way of IMT extorting money out of what would normally be innocent law abiding people just wanting to go about their day and getting on with their lives. No it is much easier to harass the public and make life difficult for them. It is high time that someone competent steps in and takes control of the incompetence of the IMT.
