Today, “between 150 and 200 workers” gathered next to the so-called town palace (the National Palace of Sintra) in order to draw attention to the situation experienced in the exclusively public capital company, created in 2000 following the classification of the cultural landscape of Sintra as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
As Nuno Santos, from the Workers’ Commission (CT) of Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua (PSML) told Lusa, “despite some advances at Wednesday’s general meeting of shareholders, the workers decided to maintain the protest”.
"We want measures now", he stressed.
The company's shareholders are the General Directorate of Treasury and Finance, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, Turismo de Portugal and the Municipality of Sintra, in the district of Lisbon.
It is responsible for managing the Park and Palace of Monserrate, Castle of the Moors, National Palace of Sintra, Park and National Palace of Pena, Convent of the Capuchos, Chalet and Garden of the Countess of Edla, Lighthouse of Cabo da Roca, National Palace and Gardens of Queluz, Vila Sassetti, Portuguese School of Equestrian Art and the Sanctuary of Peninha.
In a note released on its website, PSML indicates that the parks and monuments it manages are closed today due to the strike.
