The service will also compliment the daily year round service between Lisbon and New York-JFK.
According to Publituris, in total, Delta Air Lines offers up to 14 flights per week between Portugal and the United States this summer, offering up to 430 daily seats, including in Delta Premium Select and Delta One cabins.
“Delta's nonstop flight between Lisbon and Boston allows customers in Portugal to connect to a greater number of destinations in the US and beyond through one of our most dynamic and rapidly growing hubs,” said Nicolas Ferri, Vice President for Delta's EMEAI region.
“It also means that our North American leisure and business customers will find it easier to visit Portugal, an increasingly popular destination in our network, allowing them to explore the country's rich history and heritage.”
For Luís Araújo, president of Turismo de Portugal, “this return is proof of the strong tourist recovery that is being experienced in Portugal. Also, restoring this air link is especially important as the United States is currently one of our top markets and Delta Air Lines offers visitors a high-quality option. It also represents a way to open new routes between the USA and Portugal.”
Meanwhile, Keiko Matsudo Orrall, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism, highlights the “proud” Portuguese-American community in New Bedford and Provincetown (Massachusetts), as well as the “vibrant traditions in terms of culture, heritage, education, gastronomy and scenic beauty that we can't wait to share. As the gateway to all of Massachusetts and the six New England states, Boston is the perfect place to start your American adventure,” concludes Orrall.
On the side of ANA – VINCI Airports, Francisco Pita, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the company, admits that “the reinforcement of the Delta Air Lines operation from Boston shows the growing enthusiasm of the North American market for Portugal, in particular for Lisbon. This continues to be one of the fastest growing markets, contributing to the rapid recovery of air traffic at Portuguese airports”.
Delta's year-round flights to New York-JFK and summer service to Boston will be operated on Boeing 767-300 aircraft and in conjunction with transatlantic joint venture partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic.
For Boston, flights depart Lisbon at 12:45 pm, arriving in the North American city at 3:15 pm. The reverse is done at 11:15 pm, arriving in Lisbon the next day at 10:45 am. It should be noted that Delta Air Lines will reduce the Boston-Lisbon service from seven to four frequencies per week in November and December 2023.
As for flights between Lisbon and New York-JFK, departures will take place daily from the Portuguese capital at 10:00 am, arriving in New York at 12:55 pm. In the opposite direction, flights will be made during the night, departing from New York at 8:10 pm and arriving in Lisbon the following day at 8:00 am.
Delta should seize the opportunities of flying to LA, Atlanta and Houston.

Be careful what you wish for. Certainly not Americans.

As Portuguese, I find comments like the one above disgraceful, distasteful, and dull-witted. Such comments are the hallmark of ignorance and brainlessness. There are nice Americans and not so nice Americans. There are nice Portuguese and not so nice Portuguese. But Europeans who see 332 million people (the population of the US) as homogeneous and exactly alike surely know nothing about their own history and culture.
