According to SIC Noticias, Portugal has once again been highlighted in one of the most recent rankings published by TasteAtlas. This time, the online guide has chosen the '100 best breads in the world' and the famous Alentejo bread is part of the Top 10.

Its "rustic and thick crust that contrasts with the soft and airy crumb inside" earned it 7th place with a rating of 4.6 stars out of five.

The gastronomic platform created in 2015, describes Alentejo bread as the "perfect accompaniment to Portuguese meals" that can be combined with other very traditional products such as "cheeses, olives or matured meats" from that region of the country.

From Bolo do Caco to Cornbread

The traditional Bolo do Caco, from Madeira Island, occupies 11th place in the ranking with a rating of 4.5 stars out of five.

"Usually served as a hot appetizer with garlic butter, but it can also be enjoyed as a sandwich or as a side dish to many traditional Portuguese dishes."

50th place goes to Bolo Lêvedo, a very typical bread of the Azores region, which received a rating of 4.3 stars out of five: "They are served hot and spread with butter or fruit jam", adds TasteAtlas.

Folar de Chaves (55th place), Folar de Valpaços (60th place), Cornbread (74th place) and Traditional Bread (100th place) are also distinguished by the gastronomic platform.

Recently, TasteAtlas elected Alentejo as the 9th best region in the world in terms of gastronomy and the Pastel de Belém as the best pastry in the world.
