The authorities are asking anyone who receives such an email not to access the link sent.
One of the examples released by the tax authorities reads “Important notice! We identified discrepancies in your IRS” and has a link for the user to access.
“These messages are false and should be ignored. Its objective is to convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the suggested links”, says the tax authorities in a statement, asking taxpayers not to carry out this operation.

Perhaps if the IRS simplified their terminology, their web site and their processes the people would be more inclined to understand and not be scammed!
