The biggest Santa Claus in the world has arrived in Águeda, as part of the ‘Águeda é Natal’ initiative which will now run until 7 January.

Before the Christmas lights turned on, "a Christmas Parade excited and surprised the crowd along the route, which started at the City Hall and ended at Largo 1.° de Maio, where the Biggest Santa Claus in the World and his Orchestra" could be found, according to the Municipality of Águeda.

I find this sad. When I first visited Portugal it wasn’t Santa Clause who brought presents: it was the Menino Jesus. I should have liked to see Portugal maintain its Christmas traditions but I suppose in a global world this is not possible.
