The Algarve Tourism Board's (RTA) outlook for hotel occupancy in the region on New Year's Eve is "very good" and should follow the positive trend throughout 2023, its president told Lusa.


"In terms of bookings already made, but also the expectation of last-minute bookings, the outlook is very good," said André Gomes, who believes that by the end of the year, the Algarve will reach 20 million overnight stays.


Although more than three weeks away, and with no accurate data on bookings, the head of RTA told Lusa that he has "very positive" expectations for the Algarve's New Year's Eve, given the feedback he had received from the sector's representative associations and some hotel representatives.


"Some agents said they worked very well during this period. Last week I spoke to one or two hotels and one of them, for example, told me that they were completely full for the end of the year," he said.


This expectation, he added, is also due to the good turnout from the national market that the Algarve's hotel sector has already seen on 1 December bank holiday, the first of four long weekends throughout the month.
