"Cooking oil was the product whose price increased the most since the VAT exemption on a basket of more than 40 foods ended. Between January 4, the last day of exemption from this tax on essential goods, and January 10, the price of this product rose 21.35%, to 2.33 euros".
The total price of the food basket of 41 foods monitored by DECO Proteste increased by 7.96 euros (plus 5.60%), to 149.93 euros. "This increase is, nevertheless, slightly below the 6% VAT that is now added to the prices of almost all products", concludes the organisation.
Sheer profiteering! Like the the subtle reduction in the quantity of packaged food, the reduction in the size of sliced bread being one example, despite increasing the price.
