The Municipal Council of Marinha Grande, has approved the renovation of this complex which will include swimming pools, a restaurant, a tourist development and new homes, in a bid to boost tourism on São Pedro de Moel beach, according to mayor Aurélio Ferreira.
The idea involves requalifying the existing building - inserted into the hillside, but set back from the sea -, “maintaining the current use of services and establishing a relationship with the public use of equipment that was part of the collective memory of Marinha Grande”. To ensure “greater harmony” with the surroundings, “the new building reduces the construction area and redefines its volume”, states the council.
“The south area will be reserved for swimming pools, with a large area of water and the diving pool will be transformed into a ‘spring pool’ for children, keeping the boards as a memory. The large pool will be resized”, added the municipality.
At the same time, another Request for Prior Information (PIP) was approved regarding the construction of a housing complex, on the land bordering the São Pedro de Moel swimming pool complex, consisting of 14 T2 and T3 apartments, on two floors and a basement parking floor for 33 spaces. Now, the project will be finalized before entering the licensing phase and the work moving forward.
“Rehabilitating the São Pedro de Moel Swimming Pool Complex will be the realization of an objective and a dream, not only for the company that owns the property [Gestoliva Imobiliária SA] but also for the municipality and the entire community, which will requalify and beautify São Pedro de Moel beach, increase hotel supply, create jobs and boost the economy”, adds the mayor of Marinha Grande.
