‘Resiestrela’ encourages the general population to visit the Waste Treatment Centre at Fundão, in the district of Castelo Branco, on Saturdays between 10am and 1pm, to learn about what happens to trash after it is thrown away. The initiative, which is named ‘Open Doors’, enables the visitors to bring rubbish straight to the facility and take part in the treatment process.
“The experience includes guided visits to sorting units, organic recovery units, landfills, transfer stations and eco-centres and energy recovery plants, so that it is possible to understand what happens to the waste after being placed in the respective containers”, ‘Resiestrela’ has noted. Although free to visit, the interested in joining the ‘Open Doors’ initiative should register beforehand through the ‘Resiestrela’ website, emailing them at atendimento@linhadareciclagem.pt or contacting them via the number (+351) 800 911 400.
‘Resiestrela’, ‘Open Doors’ day is dedicated to “commitment to transparency” as it wants to showcase the work process carried out by the waste treatment teams. As ‘Resiestrela’ explains, this experience also aims to “demystify the myths about recycling and also clarify the rules for separating waste”. The initiative is part of the entity responsible for the Multimunicipal System for Sorting, Selective Collection, Valorization and Treatment of Urban Solid Waste in 14 municipalities of Beira Interior.
