Dating from as far back as 3,000 BCE, and through the Classical period (460 BCE), the Hellenistic Age (100 BCE to 100 CE) and Roman times, all the way up to the Byzantine period (800 to 900 CE), the medieval, and Ottoman periods, they are like a barnacle-encrusted history of Hellas and her neighbours.
Since 2019, the research team of the National Hellenic Research Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture has utilised sources, testimonies, and references from Homer's Iliad until modern times, to locate the wrecks.
