“I spend a lot of my time in Portugal and, in addition to the friends I have here, the waves in some areas of Portugal are epic. Therefore, when I found out that this Surf Park was going to be created, with Wavegarden technology, less than 30 minutes from my house, I couldn't stand back”, says Kanoa Igarashi, according to a report by ECO.
The technology for Surf Parque's waves belongs to the world leader in the sector (Wavegarden) and has already been tested and installed in countries such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, Brazil, and South Korea. “I am sure that Surf Parque Óbidos will be a space with a lot of support for those who want to learn safely and train professionally, at the highest level. It is an excellent complement to the sea. It will be another gathering place for all surfers”, highlights the new investor, who lives in Ericeira.
The development in Óbidos represents an investment of 30 million euros by Surfers Cove, whose main shareholders are Despomar, Alaïa Bay, Admar, and Menlo Capital.
The park begins with a soft opening period in March 2026, followed by the “grand opening” to the Portuguese and international public in July of the same year, according to information provided by the promoters.
Kanoa Igarashi has participated in international competitions since 2012 and was the youngest debutant on the Championship Tour (CT) of the World Surf League (WSL) in 2016, having been the most successful in his first season and finishing second in the Pipeline event. Currently, he occupies seventh position in the World Surf League, according to information shared in a statement.
