According to ECO, the Super Bock Group opens the first Browers brewery space in July, in the Beato Innovation District, in Lisbon.
The brewery invested more than three million euros in the refurbishment of the space that was built in the former Lisbon Military Maintenance power station, in the Hub Criativo do Beato (HCB).
“The Browers Beato brewery, which was created as part of the refurbishment and modernisation of the former Lisbon Military Maintenance power station, is a multipurpose space, measuring around 700 square metres, which includes a micro-brewery, a catering concept and an area for events. This collaborative and inclusive project reinforces the role and involvement of the Super Bock Group in actively promoting the beer category in Portugal, through the Browers brand, in partnership with the Lisbon City Council and Startup Lisboa”, the brewery group said in the inauguration invitation sent to the press.
The brewing group's project for HCB – today the home of Unicorn Factory Lisbon – was announced in 2018 and had October 2019 as its opening date. In October last year, when work began on the space, the first half of 2024 was chosen as the new opening date.
“We cannot say that the project 'slipped'. What happened is that we readjusted the schedule due to the pandemic. We maintain the same assumptions, and the investment had to be adjusted to the context of inflation that we have experienced in the last three years”, said Tiago Brandão, project director of The Browers Company, spin-off of the Super Bock group, responsible for Browers Beato, when asked by ECO, in October last year, about the impact of the new dates on the investment planned in the project designed by architect Eduardo Souto Moura and Nuno Graça Moura.
“Adding our share and that of our partners, we are facing an investment greater than the initial three million”, said the person responsible for Browers.
The space will not be an incubator but will maintain connections to the entrepreneurship ecosystem. For example, Browers Beato will participate in the “Beato Living Lab” project – in which we will implement a new Portuguese hop culture on the rooftop of the Factory building; our presence at events organised at HCB with Browers beers and, of course, what better reference than Beer Ato itself, as an example of promoting the local ecosystem”, Tiago Brandão told ECO last October.
