"The President of the Republic expresses his strongest condemnation of the attack on former President Donald Trump", reads a note on the presidency's website, in which Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also sends "condolences to the family of the fatal victim" and wishes speedy best wishes to "all those affected".
The President of the Republic ends with an appeal to "combat political violence with all firmness and in full respect for democratic values".
Early this Sunday morning, the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, also condemned the attack against former US President Donald Trump, to whom he wished a speedy recovery.
"I strongly condemn the attack committed against former president Donald Trump, wishing him a speedy recovery. Political violence is completely intolerable and democracies must combat it systematically", wrote Luís Montenegro, on the social network X.
Remember that Donald Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in the city of Butler, Pennsylvania, USA, on Saturday night.
Two people died, including the shooter, who was shot by security services, and two others were injured. The FBI identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Mathiew Crooks.
Who cares what Marcelo thinks about this - or anything else, for that matter? As usual, his comments are a waste of cyberspace..
