Recognised as the UK’s longest-running event dedicated solely to Portugal, the October 2024 edition of ‘Moving to Portugal’ promises to be very important, following the recent general elections in both the UK and Portugal.

After such upheaval, many people may now be wondering what a Labour government in the UK will look like, especially in terms of taxes, ties with Europe, and economic growth.

At the same time, the new Portuguese government has announced its plan to reintroduce a 20% flat tax rate of income tax for specific professional roles, with the aim of attracting more expatriates. This new initiative called the Talent Attraction Regime (TAR), will have a broader scope compared to the existing Non-Habitual Resident Tax Regime (NHR). It will target highly qualified professionals, as well as directors of relocating and start-up businesses.

“Whether you’re considering a move to Portugal as a potential expatriate or eyeing up the country for business investment, the Chamber’s ‘Moving to Portugal’ Show & Seminars serve as your gateway to understanding all the legal, tax, and financial implications of moving, while also featuring a wide range of properties for sale across the whole of Portugal”.
