The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the orange warning in Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, and Castelo Branco until the end of Saturday. However, this warning will only come into effect at 9:00 am on Friday.
Until then, these districts are under a yellow warning, as are those of Évora, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Beja, Portalegre, and Braga.
As of Friday, the districts of Setúbal, Santarém, Aveiro, and Coimbra will also be under a yellow warning.
The only districts with no warnings forecast for these days are Lisbon, Leiria, and Faro.
The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a moderate to high-risk weather situation. The yellow warning is issued when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
Bragança and Castelo Branco, with 37º Celsius, will be the hottest districts and Aveiro the coolest, with 24º expected.
On Saturday, temperatures will exceed 40º in some areas of the interior.
