“You set an exceptional example for the world, which sometimes complains about so many things. That example is your ability to overcome obstacles, which you set individually and collectively, showing that, with will, effort and hard work, anything is possible”, said José Pedro Aguiar Branco, in Paris, at a reception held at the official residence of the Portuguese ambassador to France.
The President of the AR considered that overcoming obstacles “is the first medal that each one wears on their chest”, but left a challenge to the 27 Portuguese athletes who will participate in the competition that starts today: “Believe in the medals”.
“I am certain that our delegation will have the same commitment and enthusiasm to represent the country with dignity. I hope that this will be reflected in the results, which will surely be the pride of the entire country that will be looking forward to the competition. We believe that medals are possible,” he said.
At the Paris2024 Games, which is taking place between Wednesday and 8 September, Portugal will be taking part in the competition for the 11th time, which dates back to 1948, when neurosurgeon Ludwig Guttmann organised a sports competition for World War II veterans with spinal cord injuries (in wheelchairs) in the English city of Stoke Mandeville.
