While JR companies have previously combined passenger and freight services by utilising space in passenger cars or using empty seats, this would be the first instance of a Shinkansen train having a car solely for cargo.

The system could focus solely on the front car, minimising passenger movement through the rest of the train. Other suggestions include widening freight car doors for easier loading and unloading or dedicating entire trains specifically for cargo transport.
