We are a small dance group who meets once a week on Mondays between 7:00pm and 9:00pm at the Nobel International School near Lagoa.

From beginner to experienced dancers, everyone is welcome. Our group is made up of people from many countries who enjoy Scottish Country Dancing and we often have people who have never done it before to teachers from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.

Typically, we do some easy dances suitable for beginners and also more difficult ones for experienced dancers. We teach the dance steps, but for beginners, the most important thing is to have fun getting through the dances. If this conjures up a vision of youths leaping high over crossed swords, banish the thought. Think instead of a circle of dancers or everyone in twos around the room, or two lines of dancers facing each other. There are lively reels and jigs, while strathspeys are slow and graceful.

There are events taking place in the Algarve such as the St Andrew’s Ball and the Burns Supper. Every March the Iberian Peninsula Dance weekend for more experienced dancers is held in Portugal or Spain with other Scottish dancing groups which includes classes and social dances with live music.

Scottish Country Dancing is not only good fun, but it provides both mental stimulation and exercise, You can come alone, as many of us do, or with friends.
